- ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪My 90 year old mother was diagnosed with colon cancer. The referring surgeon said that for pain she would receive Fetanyl patches, as any oral medication had been known to make her extremely nauseous. This promise made her less fearful for the pain that was inevitable. However as my mother got worse she was denied the patch by Dr. Simon. Instead he prescribed Tramadol. When this wasn't controlling the pain the home health nurse had to fight to get the Fetanyl patch she was promised. The patch Dr. Simon prescribed was only 12 micrograms which was so small that none of the health nurses had ever heard of it before. The problem was that my mother declined quickly-diagnoses to death was close to just 4 weeks- Perhaps Dr. Simon didn't understand. BUT HE MADE NO EFFORT TO UNDERSTAND ! If he didn't believe the condition she was in he had several options. He could have come to see her (I understand that house calls are a thing of the past, however my mother was bedridden for the last 2 weeks of her life) HE DIDN'T EVEN CALL...he just fought us every step of the way! This is a doctor that does take seriously his profession to help and care for people. I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM!December 18, 2016by Linda George
- ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪Dr Simon's was my mother's doctor before her death a week ago. As she had colon cancer, what did I expect, since he is not an oncologist? But I did expect pain relief prior to her death. The surgeon Dr Simon referred to my mother, promised fetenyl patches to help ease the pain during the final weeks. However, when the hospice nurse begged for medication, we had to wait for 4 days. Finally Dr. Simon prescribed the lowest dose possible, and even so low many medical professionals we spoke with said that they didn't know fetenyl came in a 12 mcg dose. Why did we have to beg for the small amount we got? I would not recommend Dr. Simon to anyone. They don't care that a 90 year old 80 pound women suffers. Thank heaven she went quickly.
